De-Matting Policy
De-matting is a service we offer on a very limited basis. Even with the correct equipment and techniques, de-matting can be very uncomfortable for your pet.
A coat that is regularly de-matted is often left torn and damaged, and is much more likely to matt again. When it’s in the best interest of your dog, we recommend clipping the matts out and allowing the coat to reset.

Double Coated Dogs
Please note, that unless it is absolutely necessary, we do not clip breeds with double coats.
Double coated dogs are dogs that have a thicker undercoat (the lighter softer coat that sheds) and a protective outer layer of guard hairs (the coarser hair that doesn’t shed, and helps to regulate temperature). Golden retrievers, shelties and pomeranians are just a few examples of double coated breeds.
When guard hairs are shaved or cut short there is a very strong likelihood that they will not grow back properly. The undercoat will often overgrow and suffocate the guard hairs. This can cause the guard hairs to become stuck inside the undercoat and poke the dog's skin. It is very uncomfortable for your dog and can result in a patchy, scruffy appearance and compromises the protective qualities of their coat. At times the coat will not grow back at all. If you are unsure if your dog is a double coated breed, please feel free to speak with our staff.
